Why Did God's
Servant Have to Die?

Dear Reader, in the Torah (Old Testament), God spoke by the prophet Isaiah, saying:

Chapter 52:

13 Behold, my SERVANT shall deal prudently; he shall be exalted and extolled, and be very high.
14 As many were astonisehd at you---his visage was so marred more than any man, and his form more than the sons of men---
15 So shall he sprinkle many nations; the kings shall shut their mouths at him; for that which had not been told them shall they see, and that which they had not heard shall they consider.

Chapter 53:

1 Who has believed our report? And to whom is the arm of the Lord revealed?
2 For he shall grow up before him like a tender plant, and like a root out of a dry ground; he has no form nor comliness, and when we shall see him, there is no beauty that we should desire him.
3 He is despised and rejected of men, a man of sorrows, and acquainted with grief, and we hid as it were our faces from him; he was despised, and we esteemed him not.
4 Surely he has borne our griefs, and carried our sorrows; yet we did esteem him stricken, smitten of God, and afflicted.
5 But he was wounded for our transgressions, he was bruised for our iniquities; the chastisement for our peace was upon him, and with his stripes we are healed.
6 All we like sheep have gone astray; we have turned everyone to his own way, and the Lord has laid on him the iniquity of us all.
7 He was oppressed, and he was afflicted, yet he opened not his mouth; he is brought as a lamb to the slaughter, and as a sheep before her shearers is dumb, so he opened not his mouth.
8 He was taken from prison and from judgment; and who shall declare his generation? For he was cut off out of the land of the living; for the transgression of my people was he stricken.
9 And he made his grave with the wicked, and with the rich in his death, because he had done no violence, neither was any deceit in his mouth.
10 Yet it pleased the Lord to bruise him; he has put him to grief. When you shall make his soul an offering for sin, he shall see his seed, he shall prolong his days, and the pleasure of the Lord shall propser in his hand.
11 He shall see of the travail of his soul, and he shall be satisfied; by his knowledge shall my righteous SERVANT justify many; for he shall bear their iniquities.
12 Therefore will I divide him a portion with the great, and he shall divide the spoil with the strong, because he has poured out his soul unto death; and he was numbered with the transgressors; an he bore the sin of many, and made intercession for the transgressors.

The underlined passages above show that God's SERVANT was destined to suffer and die in the place of men for their sins.

In Isaiah's prophecy, who is the man that God calls my SERVANT?
Note that God's SERVANT was treated like a transgressor. The prophet Isaiah wrote:

And he was numbered with the transgressors; (Isaiah 53:12)

Jesus was born 700 years after this prophecy by Isaiah, and, on the eve of his death, according to the Injil, Jesus said:

For I say unto you that this that is written must yet be accomplished in me, And he was reckoned among the transgressors; for the things concerning me have a fulfillment. (Luke 22:37)

The day after he said these words, Jesus was crucified with two transgressors. According to the Injil, a companion of the apostles of Jesus named Mark wrote:

And with Jesus they crucify two thieves, the one on his right hand, and the other on his left. And the scripture was fulfilled, which says, And he was numbered with the transgressors. (Mark 15:27, 28)

Thus the Injil reveals that Jesus is God's SERVANT foretold by the prophet Isaiah.

Why did God's SERVANT have to die for the iniquity of us all?
The prophet Isaiah wrote in Chapter 53:

The Lord has laid on him the iniquity of us all. (53:6) Yet it pleased the Lord to bruise him; he has put him to grief; (53:10)

Thus God's SERVANT had to die for the iniquity of us all because that was the will of God for him.

What is God's will for those who believe in His SERVANT, Jesus the Messiah?

   In the Injil, Jesus said:

Him that comes to me I will in no wise cast out. For I came down from heaven, not to do my own will but the will of him that sent me. And this is the Father's will who has sent me, that of all he has given me I should lose nothing, but should raise it up again at the last day. And this is the will of him that sent me, that everyone who sees the Son, and believes on him, may have everlasting life; and I will raise him up at the last day. Truly, truly, I say unto you, He that believes on me has everlasting life. (John 6:37-40, 47)

Thus it is God's will that everyone who believes on His SERVANT, Jesus the Messiah, shall have everlasting life!

Is it not possible to come to God some other way?
   In the Injil, Jesus said:

I am the way, the truth, and the life; no man cometh unto the Father but by me. (John 14:6)

Is there no salvation in any other person?

In the Injil, speaking about Jesus, the Apostle Peter said:

Neither is there salvation in any other; for ther is no other name under heaven given among men, whereby we must be saved. (Acts 4:12)

In the Injil, after rising from the dead, Jesus said to his disciples:

These are the words which I spoke to you while I was still with you, that all things must be fulfilled which were written in the Law of Moses and the Prophets and the Psalms concerning me. And he opened their understanding, that they might comprehend the Scriptures. Then he said to them, Thus it is written, and thus it was necessary for the Messiah to suffer and to rise from the dead the third day, and that repentance and forgiveness of sins should be preached in his name to all nations. (Luke 24:44-47)

Dear Reader, the Injil also assures you:

This is a faithful saying, and worthy of all acceptance, that Messiah Jesus came into the world to save sinners. (1 Timothy 1:15)
God will have all men to be saved, and to come to the knowledge of the truth. For there is one God, and one mediator between God and men, the man Messiah Jesus, who gave himself a ransom for all. (1 Timothy 2:4-6)
For God made Messiah, who knew no sin, to be a sin offering for us, that we might become the righteousness of God in him. (2 Corinthians 5:21)
For Messiah also has once suffered for sins, the just for the unjust, that he might bring us to God, being put to death in the flesh, but made alive by the Spirit: (1 Peter 3:18)
Wherefore, God also has highly exalted him, and given him a name which is above very name, That at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, in heaven and on earth and under the earth, And that every tongue should confess that Jesus the Messiah is Lord, to the glory of God the Father. (Philippians 2:9-11)

Remember:
