The Amazing Fulfillment of Daniel's Prophecy

Dear Reader,
Daniel the prophet was given a prophecy about the coming Messiah over 500 years before the birth of Jesus. The prophecy is recorded in the Torah (Old Testament) of the Bible. The amazing fulfillment of this remarkable prophcey is found in the Torah, and in the Injil (New Testament) of the Bible, and in world history.

Daniel's Prophecy

"Know, therefore, and understand, that (1) from the going forth of the commandment to restore and to build Jerusalem (2)unto the Messiah, the prince, shall be seven weeks, and sixty-two weeks; the street shall be built again, and the wall, even in troublous times.
     (3) And after the sixty-two weeks shall Messiah be cut off, but not for himself;(4)And the people of the prince that shall come shall destroy the city and the sanctuary, and unto the end of the way desolations are determined,''
(Daniel 9:25,26)

According to the Torah, the above prophecy was given to Daniel ''In The first year of Darius, the son of Ahasuerus,...'' (Daniel 9:1) Darius was the king of Persia from 539 BC to 525 BC.

The Fulfillment Of Part (1)

''..from the going forth of the commandment to restore and to biuld Jerusalem;''

The commandment to restore and to build Jerusalem was given by King Artaxerxes over 90 years after Daniel's prophecy. At that time, the King sent Nehemiah back to rebuild the city. According to the Torah in Nehemiah 2:1, the time of the of this commandment was ''in the twentieth year of Artaxerxes the Kung.'' Artaxerxes was King of Persia from 464 BC to 423 BC, and the decree to rebuild Jerusalem was given in 445 BC.

The Fulfillment Of Part (2)

"..unto the Messiah, the Prince, shall be seven weeks, and sixty-two weeks;"

The Hebrew word for "weeks" literally means "sevens", and, in this context, it refers to a seven-year period of time. Thus, seven seven-year periods and sixty-two seven-year periods make a total of 483 Jewish years, or 476 solar years, a time span that terminated when Jesus publicly and officially presented himself as the Messiah by riding into Jeruasalem on a donkey. This event is recorded in the Injil in John 12:12-16. Also, according to the Injil in Luke 3:1-22, Jesus and John the Baptist both ministered during the time Pontius Pilate was governer of Judea. And, according to Roman history, Pontius Pilate was governor of Judea from 26AD to 36AD.

The Fulfillment Of Part (3)

"And after the sixty-two weeks shall Messiah be cut off"

Thus, in the Torah, the prophet Daniel prophesied that the Messiah shall be killed after the sixty-two seven-year periods. The Messiah Jesus confirmed this prophecy on three occasions during his ministry on earth:
(1) According to the Injil, about nine months before his death: "..Jesus began to teach them that the Son of man must suffer many things, and be rejected of the elders, and of the Chief priests, and scribes, and be killed, and after three days rise again." (Mark 8:31)
(11) Later, about six months before his death, Jesus said to his disciples: "..The Son of man is delivered into the hands of men, and they shall kill him; and after that he is killed, he shall rise the third day.''(Mark 9:31)
(111) And , a few days before his death, Jesus once again reminded his disciples: "Behold we go up to Jeruasalem, and all things that are written by the prophets concerning the Son of man shall be accomplished. For he shall be delivered unto the Gentiles, and shall be mocked, and spitefully treated and spit on; And they shall scourge him, and put him to death. And the third day he shall rise again." (Luke 18:31-33)
After this, Jesus gave the reason for his death in these words: "The Son of man came not to be ministered unto, but to minister, and to give his life a ransom for many."   (Mark 10:45)
The Injil then records that Jesus was crucified with two other men. In order to hasten the death of the three men, so that their bodies might be removed before the coming of the sabbath, the Jews "..besought Pilate that their legs might be broken, and that they might be taken away. Then came the soldiers and broke the legs of the first, and of the other that was crucified with him. But, when they came to Jesus , and saw that he was dead already, they broke not legs:'' (John 19:31-33)
From the preceding scripture, plus others in the Injil, we learn that Pilate was governor when Jesus the Messiah was crucified, thus establishing that the Messiah died between 26AD and 36AD.

The Fulfillment Of Part (4)

"..and the people of the prince that shall come shall destroy the city and the sanctuary."

Only a few days before his death, Jesus the Messiah confirmed that Daniel's prophecy concerning the destruction of Jerusalem and the Temple would surely be fulfilled.
Jesus said:
"And when you shall see Jerusalem compassed with armies, then know that the desolation thereof is near." (Luke 21:20)
     The Injil also records:
"And as some spoke of the Temple, how it was adorned with goodly stones and gifts , which you behold , the days will come, in which there shall not be left one stone upon another, that shall not be thrown down,'' (Luke 21:5,6)
This Prophecy was strikingly fulfilled in 70AD when the armies of Titus the Roman general destroyed Jerusalem and the Temple. In fact, the destruction was so complete that the Jewish historian, Josephus, wrote:
"There remained nothing to make those who came there believe that place had ever been inhabited."

Regarding the death of Jesus the Messiah, we learn the following from the above scriptures:

(1) In the Torah, Daniel's prophecy revealed that the Messiah would be killed before the destruction of Jerusalem and the Temple.

(11) Hundreds of years later, in the Injil, Messiah Jesus confirmed Daniel's prophecy, And also told why he would give his life.

(111) The Injil also records that Jesus the Messiah was indeed crucified, and that he died on the cross when Pilate was governer of Judea.

Since Daniel and Jesus the Messiah were moved by God to prophecy these things, The Messiah Jesus had to die and rise from the dead just as God decreed and declared through them.

After rising from the dead, according to the Injil, Jesus said to his Disciples:

These are the words which I spoke to you while I was still with you, That all things must be fulfilled which were written in the law of Moses and in the prophets and in the Psalms concerning me. And he opened their understanding, that they might comprehend the scriptures, Then he said to them, Thus it is written, and thus it was necessary for the Messiah to suffer and to rise from the dead the third day, and that repentance and forgiveness of sins should be preached in his name to all nations. (Luke 24:44-47)

Dear reader, the Injil also assures you:

This is a faithful saying, and worthy of all acceptance, that Messiah Jesus came into the world to save sinners.
(I Timothy 1:15)
God will have all men to be saved, and to come to the knowledge of the truth. For there is one God, and one mediator between God and men, the man Messiah Jesus, who gave himself a ransom for all.
(I Timothy 2:4-6)
For God made Messiah, who knew no sin, to be a sin offering for us, that we might become the righteousness of God in him.
(II Corinthians 5:21)
For Messiah also has once suffered for sins, the just for the unjust, That he might bring us to God, being put to death in the flesh, but made alive by the Spirit:
(I Peter 3:18)
Wherefore, God also hath highly exalted him, and given him a name which is above every name, that at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, in heaven and on earth and under the earth, and that every tongue should confess that Jesus the Messiah is Lord, to the glory of God the Father.
(Phillippians 2:9-11)

Remember:  it is the will of God that you accept and honor Jesus the Messiah as Savior and Lord. When you accept Jesus as savior, all your sins will be forgiven. You will know God as your heavenly father. You will have the assurance of going to heaven. If you want to receive Jesus the Messiah as your Saviour, you may pray the following prayer.
